HOW THE WSET CAN BOOST YOUR CAREER: MARGHERITA’S JOURNEY

Design sans titre-21

In the world of wine, some career paths are anything but random.

That’s certainly true for Margherita, now a certified WSET educator at Weeno, teaching in both Marseille and Paris.

But before she was guiding students through the complexities of tasting grids and grape varieties, she was simply a wine lover — fascinated by terroirs, grape varieties, and the stories behind every bottle.

Her journey is a perfect example of what a WSET qualification can offer: a real transformation, both professionally and personally. Thanks to the WSET, Margherita was able to structure her knowledge, deepen her expertise, gain credibility, and — most importantly — share her passion clearly and confidently, in both French and English.

In this article, we share her story.

An inspiring example for anyone who dreams of turning their love of wine into a true professional path.

1. A Calling Born in Tuscany, Revealed in Provence

It all began with a trip to Tuscany — one of the historical cradles of Italian wine.
Among the Sangiovese vineyards, Margherita felt an immediate and powerful connection to the land and its traditions.

That journey marked a turning point: she decided to turn her deep interest in wine into a full-fledged career.

Back in Marseille, she enrolled at IFCO, a wine and spirits trade school focused on professional training for the wine industry.
This first step laid the foundation for her knowledge, while sharpening her sales and customer service skills.

At the same time, she joined a well-known wine estate in the Coteaux d’Aix, where she worked for four years as a commercial representative.
This hands-on experience gave her a deep understanding of customer needs, product nuances, and the fast-paced nature of the wine trade.

But soon, Margherita felt the need to go further.
Her daily work focused mainly on wines from Provence… yet she was eager to explore other regions, other grapes, other styles.

That’s when she discovered the WSET Level 3 in Wines.

This internationally recognised program became a true game-changer. It gave her the structure and global perspective she was looking for.
She expanded her knowledge of wine styles from across the world, learned to taste systematically, to justify her opinions, and — most importantly — to communicate with clarity and confidence.

“WSET helped me put words to what I was sensing. It also gave me a clear tasting framework that helped me progress quickly.” – Margherita

And that was just the beginning…

2. From Certification to Transmission: How WSET Changed Her Life

Passing the WSET Level 3 didn’t just expand Margherita’s knowledge.
It completely changed the course of her career.

After completing the course, she felt a strong calling: she didn’t just want to learn — she wanted to share.
The desire to teach and pass on what she had gained became obvious.
Naturally, she joined the teaching team at Weeno Drinks Academy — the very school where she had trained.

Today, Margherita is a WSET Level 1 and 2 educator in French in Marseille, and also teaches in English in both Paris and Marseille.
She also leads themed wine workshops — from sparkling wines to white and red wines, great wines of France, and regional tastings from Spain and Italy — always combining technical insight, storytelling, and a deep love of wine.

This role as a trainer feels natural to her:

“Teaching allows me to bring together all my passions: wine, of course, but also education, sharing, and human connection. I love watching my students grow, gain confidence, and reveal their potential.”

Her dual background — field experience and certified teaching — gives her a pragmatic, relatable approach to wine education.
She knows how to ask the right questions, bridge theory with practice, and make complex topics feel accessible — without ever compromising on precision or standards.

But Margherita isn’t stopping there.

Driven by curiosity and passion, she now has new ambitions:

  • To specialize in spirits and lead WSET Spirits courses,
  • To prepare for the WSET Level 4 Diploma and deepen her expertise even further,
  • And to keep refining her own palate by exploring wine styles she once disliked — like very high-acid whites or lighter-bodied reds.

“My taste evolved with my knowledge.
The more you study, the more you understand what you love — and why.”

WSET didn’t just change her life.
It continues to shape her journey, every step of the way.

3. Why Her Story Can Inspire You Too

Margherita’s journey is proof that wine can start as a passion — and become a career.
But to make that leap, you need two things: solid training and the right environment to grow.

The WSET isn’t just about learning how to taste wine.
It teaches you how to analyze, describe, and communicate about wine with clarity and confidence.
It gives you:

  • an international vocabulary,
  • a globally recognized method,
  • and practical tools to:
    • Advise your clients with precision,
    • Gain confidence in professional settings,
    • Build a business in wine (sales, hospitality, exports, wine tourism…),
    • Or simply feel legitimate in an industry that can sometimes feel intimidating.

And that’s exactly what Margherita experienced.

Her story speaks to anyone who:

  • Wants to work in wine but doesn’t know where to start,
  • Dreams of a career change but lacks direction,
  • Already works in the industry and wants to level up,
  • Feels held back by their English skills.

Because WSET is progressive, well-structured, and accessible — even if you’re starting from scratch.
And with Weeno, you’re never alone: a certified trainer supports you every step of the way, in French or English, depending on your needs.

For many, WSET is the spark that turns curiosity into skills, passion into a project…
And sometimes, a project into a career.

WSET: A Launchpad Toward a Career That Truly Fits You

Margherita’s story isn’t just inspiring — it perfectly illustrates what a well-chosen, well-supported, and well-experienced WSET program can offer.

With the right blend of curiosity, commitment, and support,
a passion can become a profession,
an interest can evolve into a project,
and a project can grow into a long-lasting, fulfilling career.

At Weeno, we believe in transmission — of both knowledge and passion.

And if today Margherita is an inspiring WSET educator, it’s because she was first a dedicated and curious student, ready to push her limits.
WSET was more than just a course for her — it was a life-changing step in her professional journey.

“Teaching wine is both exciting and versatile for me. I love sharing knowledge just as much as I love continuing to learn.”
— Margherita
